文士向耶稣提问，哪一条是最要紧的诫命。他想要考考耶稣，他甚至可能在尝试抓住祂的过失。

然而，在这个经典的教训中，耶稣指出，尽心竭力来爱主我们的神，是我们应做的一件最首要的事。有些矛盾的是，爱不能够被命令，但是，尽心、尽性、尽意、尽力去爱神，就成全了所有诫命的目的。这是一个神圣的邀请，它邀请我们以爱神作为我们一生的目标。

我们的心按照尊崇神的节奏跳动，我们的心与诫命互相呼应，但我们不是单单为了恪守诫命而遵从神，我们的目标乃是因为尊崇神而守诫命。

我们的灵性、我们永活的灵，让神在我们生命中居首位。我们本可以选择服侍自己，然而，把生命献给神这位生命的主岂不好得多吗？

我们的意念思考的模式，能塑造将要发生在世界上的事。意念是具有创造力和能动力的，如果我们凡事都训练自己的意念去荣耀神，我们便能够按照彰显神国的公义和美善的方式塑造这个世界。

我们的能力指引我们把所有的资源都投入在成就神的旨意上。我们若把我们的钱财、技能、人际关系、影响力、才干等等，用来爱神和尊崇神，它们便能产生最大的影响力。

The teacher of the law who asked about the most important commandment was trying to test Jesus. He might even have been trying to trip Jesus up.

But in this classic teaching, Jesus identifies the power and primacy of loving the Lord our God as the most important thing we can ever do. Ironically, love cannot be commanded, but loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength gets at the whole purpose of all the commandments. This is a holy invitation to have our entire lives directed toward loving God.

Our hearts beat in rhythm with honoring God. Our hearts are aligned with the commandments, but not for the simple sake of keeping them. The purpose is to honor God.

Our souls, our eternal spirits, place God first in our lives. We can serve ourselves, but how much better it is to dedicate our lives to God!

Our minds think in ways to give the world the shape of things to come. Minds are creative and powerful, and in training them to glorify God in all we do, we can shape the world to act with more of the justice and goodness of God’s kingdom.

Our strength directs all our resources for God’s purposes. Our money, skills, relationships, influence, abilities, and so on are strongest when applied for the love and honor of God.
